The course deals with different news topics with a technical introduction to western journalism and newspapers. It aims at developing your understanding of journalistic English and helping you learn to read English news articles critically. During the whole semester, you will come across news items ranging from politics, economy, sports, culture, science, etc. You will also try to write a professional-quality news report. A flipped classroom model will be implemented based on a "micro lecture -- news analysis -- classroom learning" pedagogic framework. "Micro lecture" will be composed of mini-lectures of 5 to 10 minutes each, providing introduction to theories and techniques of news reporting for independent learning. "News analysis" will offer interpretation examples to current events at a regular basis as a guidance to help you in critical reading. "Classroom learning" will focus on a range of student-centered activities such as discussions and presentations, while the teacher serves as a facilitator to motivate you to your utmost.
